Take a Slice

Early morning’s solace,

a small slice of the universe,

sitting in all her glory,

sitting without expectations.

Chilled canonical coffee in a cup,

letting sleeping dogs lie,

and worries catch their breath

with the early birds who

don’t seem to have any worms.

Gentle pitter-patter served a la mode,

with no substitutions,

I’ll take two.

A Dog Nap

She never sleeps with one eye open

Though she’ll sleep on your ankle to know when you move instead

She often whines in her sleep

But I’m always there to coax her through it again and again

With belly turned upwards

Her trust shows true

A heartbeat with a murmur

and a lifelong friend for you
